- As a high-temperature metallurgical and ultrapure material
The structural materials used in production, such as crystal growth crucibles, regional refining containers, brackets, fixtures, induction heaters, etc., are all processed from high-purity graphite materials. Graphite insulation plates and bases used in vacuum smelting, as well as components such as high-temperature resistance furnace tubes, rods, plates, and grilles, are also made from graphite materials.
- As a casting and pressing mold
The use of carbon and graphite materials has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and good resistance to rapid cooling and heating, so they can be used as molds for glassware and for ferrous, non-ferrous, or rare metals. Castings obtained from graphite molds have precise dimensions, smooth surfaces, and can be used directly without processing or with slight processing, thus saving a large amount of metal. Powder metallurgy processes such as producing hard alloys (such as tungsten carbide) typically use graphite materials to process molds and sintered vessels.
