Issues to be paid attention to when using conical connectors to connect electrodes

The biggest advantage of a conical joint is that the longitudinal section of the hole wall at the electrode connection hole is conical

The outer wall is thin, the inner wall is thick, the overall strength is high, and it is not easy to expand or crack. The middle diameter of the joint is large, and it is not easy to break.

The following precautions should be taken when using graphite electrodes

:

(1) When selecting electrode types and diameters, reference should be made to the capacity of the electric furnace and the capacity of the equipped transformer.

(2) Graphite electrodes should be handled with care during loading, unloading, and transportation to protect the threads and prevent damage from collision.

(3) Graphite electrodes should be protected from moisture during transportation and storage, otherwise they must be dried before use.

(4) Before connecting, it is necessary to use compressed air to blow off the dust in the thread of the electrode joint hole, and then tighten the joint and electrode. The tightening torque should meet the regulations. In order to ensure that electrodes of different specifications can achieve the required tightening torque when connected, some electric furnace steel mills have specially manufactured a tightening wrench, which has a mark indicating the size of the tightening torque to ensure correct operation. The gripper should be clamped below or above the bottom of the electrode joint hole.

(5) The electrode lifting device of the electric furnace should be flexible in response and should not shake during operation to prevent electrode breakage or loose or detached joints.

(6) When loading materials into the furnace, large pieces of material should be placed at the bottom to prevent material collapse and electrode breakage during melting.

(7) During the refining period, electrodes should not be immersed in molten steel to increase carbon content, in order to prevent electrode thinning, resulting in electrode breakage or joint dropping.

(8) To prevent loosening and detachment of electrode joints, it is recommended to use joint pins.
