Which products are included in graphite electrode products

The electrode products mainly include graphite electrodes for steelmaking furnaces, carbon electrodes and self baking electrodes for smelting yellow phosphorus, ferroalloys, and calcium carbide in ore heating furnaces.

Graphite electrodes include ordinary power graphite electrodes and high-power and ultra-high power graphite electrodes. The production of ordinary power graphite electrodes can use general quality petroleum coke as the raw material. If the strength is general, a small amount of asphalt coke should be added to improve the mechanical strength of the electrode. Asphalt coke is not used abroad, but high softening point asphalt is used as a binder. To produce high-power graphite electrodes and ultra-high power graphite electrodes, needle coke must be used as the raw material in order to obtain graphite electrodes with lower resistivity and lower linear expansion coefficient. For the raw materials of steelmaking electrodes, the content of sulfur and phosphorus should be controlled. Sulfur and phosphorus will cause steel to exhibit both hot and cold brittleness.

Carbon electrodes are mainly made from anthracite and metallurgical coke as raw materials, sometimes with a small amount of natural graphite or graphitized chips added, and sometimes with a certain amount of petroleum coke added.

Natural graphite electrodes are made from natural graphite as raw material, and the product does not undergo high-temperature graphitization treatment. This type of electrode has a high electrical resistivity, low mechanical strength, and is prone to breakage during use.

Regenerated graphite electrodes are electrodes produced by grinding debris or waste graphite electrodes processed with graphite electrodes. They have high electrical resistivity, poor thermal stability, limited raw material sources, and are not suitable for producing large-sized electrodes.

The electrode paste of the self baking electrode is made of anthracite coal and metallurgical coke as raw materials. To reduce electrical resistivity and improve sintering performance, artificial graphite chips or natural graphite can be added. For high-end primary and secondary electrode pastes, electric calcined anthracite (partially graphitized) should be used as the raw material. Considering factors such as raw materials, energy consumption, and environmental protection of low-end products, electrode paste and anode paste are both gradually phased out products
